As one of the lower income communities of Fresno County Orange Cove didn’t see the value in a comprehensive update of its General Plan. At the same time the City wanted to “aim higher” and attract new development and a higher quality of design. Collins & Schoettler was hired to update the General Plan. Some key issues addressed in the update included:
- Strengthening the downtown as the commercial core of the community
- Establishing new street standards
- Designating new areas for industrial development
- Ensuring that parks and open space facilities are provided with future development
- Improving the City’s sales tax position
- Addressing the former railroad right of way (now developed as an attractive walking and cycling trail through the heart of the community)
