Reedley Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report

Reedley Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report

The City of Reedley hired Collins & Schoettler to prepare policies and design standards that would apply to over 1,600 acres of land around the periphery of the community expected to see the next phase of growth. The City was interested in implementing strong smart growth policies to achieve a higher level of design quality and also to reduce impacts on the environment. Collins & Schoettler worked with a special committee of interested citizens for nearly a year to arrive at the resulting policies and standards. Reedley is the first (and only) city in the Central Valley to adopt such policies for such a large area. The resulting neighborhoods are very attractive and distinctive – homes must feature large, useable front porches and they front onto narrow tree-lined streets. The Plan was recognized by both the American Planning Association and Local Government Commission for its far-sighted policies.
