Present street standards in most communities require residential streets that are overly wide, hot, and which result in potentially dangerous high speeds.  These streets do not respect the neighborhoods through which they travel.

Many older streets featured shade trees planted in a parkway between the curb and sidewalk.  These neighborhoods are now valued for their shade, beauty, and slower traffic.
